2017: 18 enclosures. 10-gauge steel, two doors with EMKA hardware, bus bar ports, ANSI 61 gray. Halfway through, the customer moved the bus bars and we updated the drawings.
Data & energy project
Data center manufacturing & fabrication
Data center construction requires components built around project-specific equipment, interfaces, handling, finishing, and delivery needs. Barnes has supported that work with custom steel enclosures, equipment supports, stainless components, and fabricated skids backed by detailed drawings and practical shop capability.

Project overview
Different work packages, coordinated around the requirement
The work called for more than repeating one enclosure design. We had to translate different equipment requirements into buildable packages, keep specifications tied to the correct order, carry design changes into fabrication, and coordinate finishing and delivery across both one-off and multi-unit work.
Project photos from the available Barnes archive. Individual captions only identify what can be seen clearly.
- Drawings
- SOLIDWORKS models, shop drawings, and production files translated project requirements into buildable parts
- Fabrication
- Custom enclosures, supports, stainless components, and equipment skids were built to their job configurations
- Production
- One-off engineered work and separate multi-unit runs required different levels of repetition and control
- Coordination
- Design changes, outside finishing, staged shipments, and multiple deliveries remained tied to the appropriate work package
01 · Custom SBB enclosure
Adapted for transport as an assembled structure
The SBB package called for one large, bolt-together steel enclosure with doors, insulation, ventilation provisions, and a project-specific finish. The design changed during the job, so the early dimensions are not presented as final as-built dimensions.
Barnes revised the enclosure with an internal frame that provided rigidity for lifting and transportation. This addressed a practical handling requirement and allowed the enclosure to travel as an assembled structure rather than requiring assembly at the installation site.
- 10-gauge steel, bolt-together panel design
- Two doors with panic hardware
- Direct-drive fan and exhaust-damper provisions
- ANSI 61 gray powder-coated finish coordinated outside the Barnes shop
- 2-inch Rmax Thermasheath-3 insulation, R-13.1
- Zinc-coated fasteners and roof bolts added for insulation installation
- SOLIDWORKS parametric model and working shop drawings
- DXF files for CNC laser cutting and CNC press-brake operations

02 · DAPB enclosure production
Repeat production without treating every order as identical
The DAPB work involved separate multi-unit orders, not one continuous production total. We kept the models, drawings, materials, hardware, fabrication, finishing requirements, and staged deliveries connected to each order while accommodating changes such as revised bus bar locations.
2018: another 18-unit order, built to that job’s drawings.
This order covered a 3-foot DAPB version and remains a separate production record rather than being combined with the earlier quantities.

03 · Supports and stainless components
Drawings carried related components into fabrication
The work also included two stacked transformer supports developed from SOLIDWORKS models and parametric shop drawings. We fabricated the supports, coordinated outside powder coating and delivery, and produced the accompanying stainless components.
- Two stacked transformer supports
- Two stainless steel Unistrut holders
- Sixteen stainless steel plates
- Plate dimensions: 5.75 × 5.75 × 0.5 inches
04 · Fabricated equipment skids
Sixteen skid designs built from defined interfaces
The 2024–2025 work covered 16 different fabricated skids within one group. Shop drawings communicated each required configuration, CNC-cut plates carried specified hole locations, and welded nuts created integrated fastening points. We fabricated the skid variations, coordinated the specified ANSI 51 color coating, and supported multiple deliveries. This work remains separate from the earlier enclosure orders.
- W4×13 members
- CNC-cut ¼-inch steel plate with specified hole locations
- Welded nuts on the underside
- 2 × 2 × ¼-inch square tubing where required
- SOLIDWORKS shop drawings
- ANSI 51 color coating and multiple deliveries

05 · Manufacturing capabilities demonstrated
Keep drawings, fabrication, and delivery connected
The technical details changed by work package, but the approach stayed practical: define what must be built, communicate it through drawings, carry revisions into the shop, and keep related manufacturing steps coordinated.
Customer and end-client identities remain confidential. Powder coating is described as coordinated finishing rather than in-house work. The records do not establish certified quality standards, performance guarantees, project-wide cost savings, or Barnes responsibility for electrical engineering, installation, or data center operation.
